Three days to go!

As we get ever so close to the holiday break I just wanted to update parents and students on a few key dates and notes for the next couple of weeks.

1. I have asked our students achieve technician to put my marks live to parents and students as soon as she can. You can access the site through our schools website and I will do my best to keep things updated. Any questions/concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

2. Wednesday is the last school day of 2010. Students will be participating in a variety of activities here at the school and at the rink. Students are reminded that they need to bring their skates and helmets to school on Wednesday. No student will be permitted to skate without a helmet.

3. Tomorrow is Christmas Sweater Day! Students are encouraged to dress festively in their favorite holiday threads. Also, 9C, we will also be cleaning out our lockers tomorrow so be sure to bring home anything you will need over the break and to return any overdue books to Mrs. Dodds in the library.

4. Les actualités: Our next current events report for all three of my social studies classes (7C, 8C, 9C) is due on January 7th. That is the first Friday after the break. I would encourage students to get this assignment done this week, rather than leaving it to be forgotten in the holiday rush 🙂

5. Students in 7C are reminded that their art projects are due on Wednesday, December 22nd. Please see me if you need more time to complete this assignment.

6. Students in 8C are reminded that their art projects are due on Tuesday, January 4th. Again, I would encourage students to get these assignments completed sooner rather than later so they can enjoy a much deserved vacation 🙂

7. Grade 9 exams are January 21 and 24th. It’s never to early to start preparing, so if you have any spare time during the holidays it would certainly be beneficial to take a look at the exam material.

Finally, I would like to wish all my students and their parents and guardians a happy, healthy and wonderful holiday season. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know each and every one of you and I look forward to my students’ continued success in the 2011.

Joyeuses fêtes 🙂

8C Project

As we near the end of our study of the Middle Ages and prepare to start our next unit on the Renaissance in January, the students are currently preparing an art project. This project is to showcase both their creativity and their knowledge of what life was like during the Middle Ages. They have been asked to create a castle, a village, a mill, a church, etc  (their choice) in the style used those living in these times.

I’ve decided to extend the deadline for this project from December 22nd to January 4th. I assumed that students would like to have things out of the way before their vacation, and if that is the case then by all means hand your projects into me before the break. However, many students have expressed interest in having the deadline extended so they can work on their projects during their time off. Either is fine with me, as long as I receive all projects on or before January 4th (our first day back in the new year).

Have fun and Happy Holidays!

9C Extra Help and Food Drive

We are having a science test on Thursday, December 9th. I will be giving extra help to any students who would like it on Wednesday, December 8th. I would encourage all students to attend as this is a great opportunity to study.

Our class is also participating in the school’s food drive so any donations would be appreciated.

Have a great week!

7C

1. Don’t forget that your first current event is due Tomorrow, December 3rd. I am really looking forward to hearing what you’ve learned listening, watching, and reading this week 🙂

2. We will be having a Social Studies test on Thursday, December 9th. We have already started reviewing and will continue tomorrow and into next week. I will be providing a review sheet and as always this should serve as the main study tool. We will be correcting this sheet together in class, as well as playing a few review games. Students should look over the material on the week-end and come prepared Monday with any questions they may have.

3. We are nearing the end of our study of Ancient Egypt. We have started work on our final project, the creation on a piece of art in the same style as the Egyptians. We will be working on this project in class so students should bring any materials they will need wiTh them. That being said, please don’t feel like you have to go out and buy anything. I have lots of things in my classroom, as well as at home that I will make available for the students. This is a creative and fun project and I’m looking forward to seeing the final results.

Happy Thursday 🙂
