PD Day February 1st

Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow, February 1st. I would encourage students in both 8C and 7C to use this time to study for their upcoming tests 🙂

Also reminder to all that weekly actualités are due on Friday, February 4th.

Have a great week!

Tests: 7C and 8C

We have finished the first part of our units in Grade 7 and Grade 8 Social Studies. Thus, we will be having a test on the material covered to date in both of these classes. We will be reviewing in class next week and students should start reviewing the material at home over the weekend.

7C: Your test will be on Friday, February 4th (Day 3)

8C: Your test will be on Thursday, February 3rd (Day 2)

Happy studying! Have a great weekend folks 🙂

7C

This week we’ve been studying science safety and learning all about WHMIS. Student’s will have a short quiz on these symbols early next week (Tuesday, January 25th). They can review them nightly between now and then and we’ve been reviewing them in class each day as well.  I will also be sending home a short assignment tonight. Students are asked to take a look at household products to see what warning symbols they can find on everyday items at home. This is a short activity that shouldn’t take very much time. It’s purpose is to get the students thinking about how we use these products and see these symbols almost everyday. Parent supervision and help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

In social studies we are well into our unit on Ancient Greece. The students are currently looking into daily life during that time and comparing it with their lives today. Life was much different for the Ancient Greeks 🙂 I’m looking at the end of next week or early the week after for a test date, assuming we have no storm days or assemblies.

I’ve taken in the “actualitĂ©s” this week to correct and I’m very impressed with the students’ effort on this project. I always look forward to the end of the week when they can share their stories and it usually makes for some great discussions en français 🙂 Their next actualitĂ© is due tomorrow, Friday January 21st and the following Friday, January 28th.

Have a great weekend folks!

It’s Exam Week!

The time is finally here Grade 9s: Your first set of exams 🙂

I’m sure you’ve all spent a lot of time studying by now and Friday you will write your exams in Science and Math. Remember to take your books home every night this week, but also remember to take a little time for yourself 🙂

I will be avaliable every day after school to answer any questions, practice problems, etc.

Good Luck!
I know you will all do GREAT!

Exams and Tests

9C: Grade 9 Exams are next Friday, January 21 (Science and Math) and the following Monday, January 24th (Social Studies and English). Students have received many reviews and should definitely be well into their studies. Ms. Van Dyke is offering extra study help sessions after school throughout this week and next, and I will as well. We’ve set tomorrow (Thursday, January 13th) as an extra help day, but I am usually at the school well into the afternoon and early evening every day for anyone who would like some help with science or social studies. I would encourage the students to bring home their books EVERY night, because you never know when we might have a storm day 🙂

7C: The science test for Chapter 1 is tomorrow, Thursday, January 13th. We’ve been reviewing in class the last few days and I’m sure that everyone will do great 🙂 Next week we will be doing some work on science safety and then we will be moving on to our new unit on heat.

7C,8C,9C: Your actualitĂ©s are due Friday, January 14th. Don’t forget that this is a collection week 🙂 Be sure you have the right amount of entries. I will collect your scribblers after we’ve shared in class on Friday.

Also, as reports and interviews are only a few weeks away I would remind students of the importance of speaking french in class. I’ve been hearing a lot of “anglais” lately 🙁 This is an important part of your mark (10%) in all your french classes. It’s an easy 10% folks, all you need to do is try your hardest to always speak french 🙂

Have a great rest of the week!

Homework and News

It’s been a busy first week back, but I think that by now everyone is back in full gear. Here are the upcoming tests, events, projects, etc.

7C: We will be having a science test on mixtures and solutions on Thursday, January 13th. I’ve gone over the topics that have been covered with the students today in class and we will be reviewing next week.

I was very impressed with the students work on their “Egyptian Art”. We have now started our unit on Ancient Greece. These themes are sparking students’ interest and their teacher couldn’t be happier about that 🙂

As always your actualités for next week are due on Friday, January 14th.

8C:  What beautiful projects you’ve done 🙂 My classroom is filled with castles, houses, churches and windmills and I appreciate all the hard work put into your “Medieval Art”. Please make sure that projects are either; taken home, thrown out 🙁 or donated to Mme for future use as soon as possible.

Now that we’ve finished our study of the Middle Ages we have begun our study on the Renaissance.  As always your actualitĂ©s are due on Friday, January 14th.

9D and 9E: We are continuing with our unit on drugs and alcohol. Remember folks: Dress warmly for health walks 🙂

9C:  EXAMS!!!! That time is almost here… but….. don’t panic it’s only a “big” test 🙂 Students should now be well into their preparations for exams. We will soon start reviewing the material covered to date in both science and social studies. Remember to always take your books home with every night and on the weekends and please, please, please, don’t hesitate to ask me or any of your other teachers for extra help. I will be having extra help sessions after school until exams and I will post the exact days and times as soon as they are finalized.

As always, your actualités are due on Thursday, January 13th (Friday is a music class).

Bonne chance 🙂

Have a great weekend folks 🙂

See you all on Monday!

Welcome 2011!

I hope that you all enjoyed a safe and happy holiday vacation. We have started back to our usual routine at MIS and I wanted to update parents and students on upcoming events.

1. All three social studies classes (7C, 8C, 9C) are reminded of your actualités due this week.

2. Health Classes (9D and 9E): Old man winter has reared his head and so we need to dress warmly for our health walks! Remember to bring coats, boots, hats, scarfs, mittens etc to school on those days.

3. Grade 9s: Your exams are fast approaching (January 21st and 24th). Over the next few weeks we will be reviewing and I will be providing study guides and sheets. You are reminded that though exams are not as scary as they seem, it is important that you are well prepared. Bring home your books every night (even if you don’t have homework) to study a little each night.

I will also be offering extra help sessions in the coming weeks to help students prepare.

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome back! and Good luck in 2011 🙂
