Week of June 15-19: Our last week of home learning 2019-2020!!

Good morning Grade 8 Immersion families,

First and foremost I want to take a moment to express my thanks to all of you for your support, kindness, patience, and understanding these past three months. It has been a school year like no other, and I know there have been many challenging moments for all of us. That being said, it has warmed my heart time and time again to see the amazing support systems that exist for my students, and how we were able to come together to make learning happen despite the pandemic and being physically apart. Your children have taught me so much! I feel truly blessed to be their teacher and to be a part of the INCREDIBLE Gulf Shore family. I’m so very proud of how your children took on the challenges of this new way of learning. They not only worked on their online assigments each week, but they also shared with me stories of the numerous other things they learned from home. From fine arts to carpentry, engineering to landscaping, baking to film, and so much more, your sons and daughters have amazed me with all the wonderful things that they’ve been doing and creating to keep their minds active and engaged during our time away from the traditional classroom.

On Monday, June 22 between 6:00-8:00pm, we will have a hold the last event of the school year for our K-8 students. Students are invited to decorate their family vehicules and to “drive-thru” to drop off any remaining textbooks/library books they may have at home, say goodbye to their teachers for the summer, and to pick up their learning reports. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone one last time before summer as we celebrate and wrap up this unique school year. More information about this event can be found on our school webpage.

Once again, a HUGE merci beaucoup!! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions/concerns.

Have a fantastic week!

Week of June 1-5

Good morning Grade 8 families,

I cannot believe that today is June 1st! Where has the time gone? It’s hard to believe that our year together is almost over. What a year it has been!

First of all I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone for how smoothly the pick of belongings went on Thursday. It was AMAZING to have the chance to see my students and to catch up with them during the few short minutes we had together. I know for many of them it was a weird feeling and they were probably less excited to see us then we were to see them, but nonetheless it was a great experience 🙂

Students are now able to connect with their teachers using Google Meet. Many of my students attended our “practice” meet on Friday where we set up extensions and expectations. Several teachers (myself included) will begin virtual “office hours” this week. During these times, students can drop into our “meets” to ask questions and/or have a chance to converse en français. More information on Google Meet can be found in our Google Classroom. This is an optional activity.

You know your children and their needs best. Please continue to support them in whatever way they need. I am here to help with anything you/they need.

Have a wonderful week!

Mme MacNevin
