Updates

Just wanted to give a few updates for parents and students:

9C:

We are closely following the current federal election in preparation for our Grade 9 Student Vote on Election Day, May 2nd. I’ve encouraged students to keep themselves up to date on what’s happening, and perhaps incorporate some key election points into their actualités (Due on Fridays). Parents, I would also encourage you to discuss the election, the parties, and their platforms with your children in order for them to become informed “voters”.

In Science, we continue our unit on Electricity. Over the next few weeks students will be working on several lab reports and assignments relating to this topic and eventually a chapter test. Please remain diligent with due dates.

The next school dance is April 14th. This is the second last dance of the year so I would encourage everyone to attend 🙂

Report cards will be going home at the end of this month. I would remind my students that speaking french in class is worth10% of your mark in both subjects.  These are easy marks to get folks, so please try to make more of an effort to “parle français” 🙂

7C:

We are finishing up our unit on Heat this week and will begin preparing for our test which will be on Thursday, April 14th. Students can begin looking over their notes and re-reading the pages we’ve covered in the textbook and next week will be do our usual review. I was very impressed with the students participation and results of our last experiment. As a teacher, it’s always fun to see science come alive 🙂 Bravo 7C!

In Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about the Roman Empire. We still have a few sections to go before our first test on this unit. Remember to always stay on top our your actualités which are due tomorrow and every Friday 🙂

8C:

We’ve finally reached some familiar territory in Social Studies, as we’ve begun our study of the Acadiens. I’ve been looking forward to this unit all year 🙂 Students have already mapped out the Acadien and French colonies and we are now beginning to study what life was like for the early settlers on “Isle Saint-Jean”. As always actualités are due on Friday.

9E and 9D Health:

The weather is finally starting to cooperate for our health walks. That being said, as the snow melts and the rain falls, I would remind students to wear proper clothing and footwear on their health walk day.

In the classroom, we are continuing our Sexuality Unit. In the coming days we will have our first in-class evaluation on the material we have been reviewing from their previous studies of this topic. Again, I would remind students of the sensitive nature of this topic and our main rule : “What is said in the classroom, stays in the classroom”.

I believe that’s it folks 🙂 Have a great weekend 🙂
