Week of October 14th-18th

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend! It was so nice to see all the beautiful colours of fall 🙂

Reminders the week ahead:

There is no school on Thursday or Friday of this week in order for teachers and support staff to attend their annual conventions. Classes will resume on Monday, October 21st and it will be Day 5 here at Gulf Shore.

Here’s a look at what is happening inside our classroom during this very short week:

Grade 5

French- As this is a short week, there will be no dictée. However, students should continue to work on those words that are causing them trouble and at writing proper sentences in French.

In reading, we will look at ways to solve words that our unknown to us and spend some time reading independently, making entries in our reader’s notebook and writing book recommendations to our classmates.

In writing, we continue work through the steps of the writing process and at properly planning our writing using graphic organizers.

Math-We will continue our work on equations and how to express problems as equations. As always, I would encourage students to keep practicing their math facts 🙂

Science-As we move through our unit on sound, this week we will look at sounds that are pleasant and unpleasant to our ears and how certain tones are desirable and others are not.

Social Studies-Work continues on the unit “Bâtir une communauté.” Students are working towards their final project of building a fictitious community.

Grade 7 and 8 Science

This week, we will take a short break from our study of the earth’s crust in preparation for our visit to Rackham’s Pond on Wednesday, where we will examine that body of water and those organisms who call it home. Students are reminded to dress for the weather on Wednesday.

Have a wonderful week!
