Week of June 3rd-7th

Week of June 3rd-7th

Our first full week of June! WOW! It is amazing how fast this year has flown by. After today, there are only 3 more Mondays remaining in the school year 🙂

On Thursday (June 6th) students in Grades 6-9 band will show off their skills during their annual year-end concert. A performance for the school will take place at 1:30pm and the evening performance will be at 7:00pm.

On Friday, we will be treated to a visit from author Pierre-Yves Villeneuve. This visit is part of the Salon du livre (French book fair) which is taking place Thursday-Saturday at the Carrfour in Charlottetown. We are looking forward to hearing about how this author creates his stories and having him share some of his work with us.

Next week (Tuesday, June 11th) Immersion Students will travel to Charlottetown to participate in the “FrancoFun” Day being hosted by the Dept of Education. There, students will be treated to musical presentations, games and some delicious food all “en français” 🙂 Please look for a notice that will be coming home today for more details. We are asking students to bring in $2.00 by Friday of this week to help cover the cost of bussing for this event. Funding for all activities as well as lunch, will be provided by the Department of Education.

Let’s take a look at what else will be happening during our week together…

French-Work continues on our class novel Aller/Retour, as we read and discuss together using strategies we’ve been working on all year. We are nearing the end of this novel and will likely begin our final reflections near the end of the week.

We will also wrap up our oral and written language production and comprehension assessments and set our goals from next year.

Science-We are moving rapidly through our technology unit. This week, we will continue our instant challenge activities, putting into action those new learnings and vocabulary we’ve been exploring together. Students will complete Chapter 8 on simple machines and prepare for their final assessment on these concepts. Work will also continue on our wind turbine projects as we wrap up the planning process and begin moving towards the first stages of prototyping.

Grade 9 Science-During our classes together over the next few days we will continue discussions and experiments on physical and chemical transformations on matter, looking in particular at how these changes and reactions happen in our body as we refer back to our work on human body systems from earlier in the year.

Grade 7 Science-This week students will wrap up their learning stations on the seasons, day and night, the properties of light and the phases of the moon. Preparations will then begin for their assessment on these concepts.

Core French 4-9-This week students in Grades 4-6 will continue their final project for our unit on pastimes. Working in small groups, they will write a song to show off their learning including their interests in sports, music and ways they help out at home.

In Grades 7-9, students will finish and then present their fake Instagram post where they must seek out advice on a problem. They will then respond to each other, giving some thoughtful suggestions en français 🙂 We will also take some time to wrap up our oral production and comprehension assessments.

Have a wonderful week!
