Weeks of March 4th-5th and March 8th-12th

With all the storms we have been having over these past few weeks, in addition to the red alert, it feels like it’s been a forever since we’ve been together and I’m anxiously awaiting to return to the classroom in the morning. March certainly has come in like a lion. Here’s hoping that it will be smooth sailing ahead and that it will go out like a lamb 😉

Our learning conferences will be virtual this time around. I will be contacting parents tomorrow and Friday at their listed time through the method they selected on the Google Form sent out earlier in the week. If you chose to have a Google Meet, you will be receiving an email shortly before your interview time with the link. I look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you.
Tomorrow, students will also arrive home with their learning portfolios for you to have a look at and discuss their goals for the coming term.

The book fair will be open as well as virtually. This is a wonderful way to pick up some reading material for the March Break, all while supporting our school library.

Because parents and teachers will be participating in conferences on Friday, there will be no classes for students on that day.

Now here is a look at what we will be learning together tomorrow and during our week before the break….

French-We are working our way through our anthology unit “L’art de l’image” as we continue to explore the interview text form. This week students will finish their reading assessment on this type of text and work on preparing questions for conducting an interview of their own. Our word work continues with homophones and we will continue to work towards our independent reading and oral language goals through our warm up activities. Mme Sophie has also been working on many exciting activities to help us celebrate “la semaine de la francophonie.”

Science-Students have now completed half of our learning stations on Space. We will continue to explore topics including the planets, meteors, comets and the northern lights right through until the break.

Grade 9 Science-During our time in the lab this week and next, we will continue our look into how the cycle divides through mitosis and meiosis. We will then round out Chapter 1 with a look at how cells are specialized in the human body and how they work together in tissues, organs and systems. As I’ve stated in previous posts, it is important for students to review new and difficult terms on a regular basis, as to not become overwhelmed with this vocabulary right before assessments.

Grade 7 Science-With the storm and circuit break days putting us a little behind, our quiz on the parts of the cell and their functions complete will happen tomorrow. With our quiz on the parts of the cell and their functions complete, we will move into the second part of our biology unit. In this section, students will look at reproduction and learn that different species use different ways to reproduce. This section will kick off with a look at the differences between asexual and sexual reproduction.

Grade 5-9 Core French-In Grades 5-6, students will combine their understanding of how to give directions in French with their knowledge of technology and physical education as they create both an interactive and virtual dance routine. In Grades 7-9, students wrap up their listening to a variety of community lost and found notices, as they put their growing list of describing vocabulary to good use; identifying the lost objects.

Have a fabulous weekend and a wonderful week ahead! I cannot wait to see everyone tomorrow! Stay safe 🙂
