Week of May 2-5

Can you believe that we have begun the month of May? Only two more months left in this school year. Time sure does fly!

Just a couple of reminders for the week….

Students are reminded to continue to take their COVID tests each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, even on days where there is no school. A new package of tests of sent home to those families who requested one last week. There will be updates to the masking guidelines next week as well. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school.

There will be no classes for students on Friday, May 6th as staff attend their annual union business meetings.

Now here is a look at the learning that will take place during these next four days…

French-This week students will dive deeper into their book club novels. Following each reading, they will discuss their novels in small groups and film their discussions using Flipgrid.

We will also continue our read aloud novel “Noémie: Le secret de Madame Lumbago” together and once we’ve finished we will watch the corresponding movie, comparing and contrasting the two as well as comparing this novel with our previous read aloud “Mamie Gangster.”

Science-We are nearing the end of our learning stations on space. Students will spend the week finishing their last few centres.

Grade 9 Science-Over the next few weeks, students will continue their work in groups to study one of four human body systems: the digestive system, the circulatory system, the respiratory system or the urinary system. Each group will be responsible for creating a model and a presentation to share the parts and functions of their system with the class.

Grade 7 Science-This week we will look at plate tectonics in greater detail and begin to explore what happens when they move, as we plot out many volcanoes and earthquakes using Google Maps and learn about the ring of fire.

Grade 9 English Science-Our study of current electricity and circuits will continue in the lab this week. We will create both series and parallel circuits using real items as well as virtually.

Have a fantastic week!
