Week of April 4th-8th

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend 🙂 Just a few updates for the week…

Tuesday, April 5th is the PEI Provincial Science Fair. We have several students from Gulf Shore who will be representing our school at UPEI on Tuesday. I will be accompanying these students and Mr. Wainwright will be spending the day with my classes back at the school. Students participating are asked to be at UPEI between 7:30-8:30 tomorrow morning to set up their projects. The Elementary Science Fair will end at 1:00pm and students in Grades 4-6 should be picked up at that time. The Intermediate Fair will continue until 4:00pm.

Scholastic book order forms are coming home with students this evening. If you are interested in purchasing any books, please have forms and money back into me by Friday.

Let’s take a look at the learning happening in our class over the next few days….

Dictée-We are working hard on the “passé composé” verb tense. Last week we explored the different parts that make up these verbs and this week we will start to discover a special group of verbs; the list DRMRSVANDERTRAMP.

French-We have started into our literacy stations and throughout the week students will work through these centers in their groups. We will also continue our read aloud novel “Croque-cailloux.” This week during our writing blocks, we will finally put the finishing touches on our persuasive letters. We will also continue to explore the parts of narrative stories, as we read through some together and in small groups.

Math-With our early dismissal and four day week last week, we didn’t have a chance to start into our unit on graphing. Thus, this week we will finish up our assessments on patterns and expressions and we will begin to study the differences between first-hand and second-hand data. We will also start to collect some data of our own as we create surveys to help us construct some double bar graphs late this week and early next.

Our second foundational concept quiz will take place next week, so we will also continue our “flashback” work and students are reminded to keep practicing these concepts at home as well.

Social Studies-Over the next few classes we will continue our discussions on Canadian heroes. We will also begin to discover the work of explorers, as we study those who first discovered our country and province.

Grade 7 Science
This week we will continue to work through our learning stations on how heat is transferred and if time permits students will start a “flipbook” project that will help them to summarize their knowledge of the concepts of convection, conduction, and radiation.

Grade 8 Science
This week students will put the finishing touches on their body systems projects, as they will present them to their peers on Day 4

Have a fantastic week!
