Week of June 10th-June 14th

What a beautiful weekend! The nice weather has finally arrived. That being said, we still have a few more weeks of learning and though it may be hard with the sun shining, focus is still needed to finish the year on a high note. 🙂

On Tuesday, June 11th Immersion Students in Grades 7-9 will travel to Charlottetown to participate in the “FrancoFun” Day being hosted by the Dept of Education. There, students will be treated to musical presentations, games and some delicious food all “en français” 🙂 If you haven’t already sent in your $2.00 help cover the cost of bussing for this event please be sure to do so as soon as possible.
Funding for all activities as well as lunch, will be provided by the Department of Education.

Permission forms for our end of year field trip to Sandspit on June 25th, will be coming home with your child today. Please note the important note regarding go-karts. Permission forms and money ($15.00) are due back by Tuesday, June 18.

Now let’s take a look at what will be happening during our classes together this week…

French-We have now completed our class novel Aller/Retour. Final assessments on this text will wrap up today and our focus will then shift to book clubs to finish out the year. In groups, students will “taste” and then decide on a book to read and discuss together over the next few weeks. Looking ahead to September, we will also finish up creating some learning goals as French speakers, listeners, readers and writers.

Science-This week students will prepare for and then write their assessment on Chapter 8 (simple machines) and continue prototyping their wind turbines.

Grade 9 Science-Today students will write their assessment on Chapter 7 (chemical and physical changes in matter and transformations of energie). Following this assessment we will begin Chapter 8 on pressure and fluids.

Grade 7 Science-We have wrapped up our learning stations and our unit on Earth and Space. Our focus will now shift to technology, as students begin the final unit of the year on engineering. This week we will discuss force and movement.

Core French 4-9-This week students in Grades 4-6 will continue to work on their final project for our unit on pastimes. Working in small groups, they will write a song to show off their learning including their interests in sports, music and ways they help out at home.

In Grades 7-9, students will finish responding to each other, giving some thoughtful suggestions en français based on their fictional Instagram posts. We will also spend some time learning some vocabulary related to activities we like to do during the summer months.

Have a fantastic week!
