Week of June 19-23

The last full week of the 2022-2023 school year is upon us! Only 8 more days of school! Wow! What a year it’s been and I’m so looking forward to celebrating it with my students over the next few weeks of fun!

Permission forms were sent home last week for our annual field trip to celebrate a great school year. We will be heading to Cineplex in Summerside to see the movie “Elemental” on Tuesday, June 27th. The cost is $15 for the movie or $25 for the movie and a popcorn combo. If you have not already done so, please send those along as soon as possible so we can get our numbers into Cineplex.

The Gulf Shore Games have been AMAZING! On Friday we will cap them off with a full day of fun and activities! Students will compete in their teams to put the final points on the board. What fun!

Now let’s take a look at what else will be happening this week…

French-Over the next few classes we will finish up and publish our comic strips and then share them with our younger sharks. We will put our listening skills to work as we watch a new release film “en français.”

Science-Our focus for our remaining classes will be on constructing a windmill. Working in small teams, students will create a windmill that they will test to see who is able to convert the most wind energy to electricity.

Grade 9 Science-We had so much fun with our dissections last week. I love seeing the learning come alive in this way! This week we will shift our focus from biology to space, as we wrap up our year with a short section on how distance is calculated across the planets. If time permits, students may also have the chance to create their own electric cars, as they work through the engineering design process.

Grade 7 Science-This week we will finish up our learning centres on space and begin our final section on technology, as students become “engineers” as they work to discover the vocabulary and steps of the design process.

Grade 9 English Science-Our final few classes will focus on biodiversity. Students will explore the school year to see what diversity lies there. We will also discuss taxonomy and how organisms are classified by using a dichotomous “jelly belly” key.

Have a marvelous Monday and a wonderful last full week of school!
